Labor Relations Specialist i
In this role you will...
- Serve as the primary point of contact between management and labor unions.
- Administer and interpret collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
- Represent the company in labor negotiations, mediations, and arbitration proceedings.
- Address and assist in resolving grievances and disputes between employees, unions, and management.
- Maintain strong relationships with union representatives to foster collaboration and effective communication.
- Provide guidance to retail managers on labor relations issues and employee concerns.
- Make presentations and conduct training seminars explaining collective bargaining agreements and contract provisions to management and People & Culture.
- Evaluate the results of surveys of wages, fringe benefits and work practices for the purposes of developing negotiation strategy alternatives.
- Maintain files (e.g., awards, arbitrations, grievance outcomes) for future reference.
- Assist with labor relations research to support representation campaigns and provide onsite assistance with representation campaigns as needed.
- Assist with all aspects of collective bargaining including note taking, preparation for negotiation sessions, tracking proposals and agreements, economic proposal analysis and impact.
- Prepare and assist in the presentation of arbitration cases and union information requests.
- Conduct comparative analysis of labor contract provisions.
- Track and report on national labor trends within the cannabis industry.
- Keep all stakeholders informed about labor relations matters, changes in policies, and any potential areas of concern.
- Conduct training for management on labor laws, employee rights, and union interactions.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, including the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) and Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
- Monitor legal and regulatory updates to proactively adjust policies and procedures.
Skills and experience you have...
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 3-5+ years of experience in labor relations, union negotiations, or HR within a retail or similar environment.
- Ability to remain professional, calm, and persuasive in controversial and/or confrontational situations.
- Strong understanding of labor laws, CBAs, dispute resolution, and employee relations best practices.
- Excellent negotiation and mediation skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with both management and union representatives.
- Proficiency in HRIS and labor relations software.
- Experience in a unionized retail or service industry.
- Combination of office and retail store settings.
- Occasional travel to store locations, union meetings, and corporate headquarters may be required.
- Flexibility to work extended hours during negotiations or critical labor events.
