Cannabis Job Market Overview:

California paved the way for legal medical marijuana, passing legislation in 1996 with the Compassionate Use Act. In 2016, Prop 64, aka the Adult Use of Marijuana Act, was voted into law, enabling cannabis use and purchases for all adults 21 years of age and older. Prop 64 also reduced criminal penalties for specific marijuana-related offenses for both adults and juveniles.

Cannabis Job Requirements & Application Process:

While a specific license is not currently required to work in cannabis in California, a potential employer reserves the right to request a background check from a future employee.

Cannabis Job Background Check Requirements:

After a background check is conducted and results delivered to a prospective employer, they are tasked with making the hiring decision. A "consider" result of a background check does not necessarily disqualify a candidate from a position in cannabis and remains up to the employer on how to proceed.
