How To Work At A Dispensary In Pennsylvania

Cannabis Job Market Overview:

Pennsylvania legalized medical cannabis in 2016 and has been operational since 2018.

Pennsylvania continues to be a highly anticipated market to come online, with experts believing that adult-use legalization could be coming soon. Currently, there are three separate proposals from law makers in favor of recreational cannabis.

Cannabis Job Requirements & Application Process:

Currently, there are no specific licenses or applications required in order to be employed by a licensed cannabis business in Pennsylvania.

However, your employer must submit your information to the state, along with :

• Evidence of good moral character and reputation of its employees
• A description of the duties, responsibilities and roles of its employees
• Employee qualification and training

In addition, you may be interviewed by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, which oversees the medical cannabis program. And you must complete a 2-hour training course within 90 days of starting employment.

Cannabis Job Background Check Requirements:

A background check is required in order to gain employment from a licensed cannabis business. The Pennsylvania Department of Health may deny employment if a background check shows "that the individual has been convicted of a criminal offense relating to the sale or possession of illegal drugs, narcotics or controlled substances and, following notification by the Department, the applicant fails or refuses to provide the Department with evidence satisfactory to the Department that the individual is no longer associated with the applicant in this capacity."
