- Cannabis Job Market Overview:
In 2006, Rhode Island approved medical cannabis; and in May 2022, Gov. Dan McKee signed legislation, the Rhode Island Cannabis Act, that will open up the adult-use market.
As of Dec. 1, 2022, existing medical retail stores are permitted to sell adult-use cannabis, and the state is expected to add another 24 retail licenses, bringing the total number of Rhode Island dispensaries to 33.
- Cannabis Job Requirements & Application Process:
All plant-touching cannabis workers in Rhode Island must have a Registry Identification Card.
Here are the requirements to obtain a card:
- 21 years of age or older
- Submit a complete application
- Include a non-refundable fee of $100
- Cannabis Job Background Check Requirements:
The Department of Business Regulation (DBR) will deny an application if the background check reveals that the applicant has been convicted of a felony drug offense or has entered a plea of no contest for a felony drug offense and received a sentence of probation unless the applicant successfully petitions for an exception.
